Why EVs put their own demands on brakes and tyres

Electric cars behave differently on the road, and that shows up in the parts the MOT scrutinises most closely. Two things stand out.

The first is regenerative braking. When you lift off the accelerator in an EV, the motor slows the car and recovers energy back into the battery, which means the conventional friction brakes are used far less than in a petrol car. That is good for pad and disc wear, but it can work against you at MOT time. Discs that sit unused can build surface rust and pitting, and pads and calipers can seize if they are rarely worked hard.
